4WD or bird's eye view?
Enjoy the splendid natural marvels in a 4x4, for example the bizarre lunar landscape of Plaine de Sables. Convenient, without any risks, and still spectacular. Nonetheless, the islands' splendor is best viewed from the air. Notably, the active volcano Piton de la Fournaise appears even more untamed from up above. Flights are either carried out by helicopters or ultralight planes.
Hiking for everybody and rock climbing
An extensive network of hiking trails, each of them clearly marked with white dots, not only attracts expert hikers, but also outdoor lovers who prefer moderate walks. There are hiking trails in any possible degree of difficulty, ranging from a few hours up to multiple day hikes. In addition, a great number of rock faces, notably in the interior of the island, for example Les Trois Salazes close to Cilaos, are clearly perfect for brave and enduring climbers.
On the horse or rather on a bike?
For horseback riders, the island might become their paradise. Especially in central parts, the South and the East are suitable for expanded equestrian tours. Yet, not only in a horse saddle, but also on a bike seat the stunning landscapes of La Réunion will give you pure delight. 1400 km of particularly marked trails lead through all kinds of terrain, appealing to both the pro and the beginner.
Canyoning and rafting
La Réunion has become the number-1-destination for canyoning and rafting. Routes for canyoning lead through waterfalls, gorges and little pools. Particularly after the rainy season, when all of a sudden peaceful rivers turn into savage waters, devotees to rafting will be thrilled.
Paragliding
Known for its perfect conditions, the little town of Saint Leu, located in the West, has become mecca for enthusiastic paragliders. To the same extent, also other areas, like the cirques in the central parts of the island, attract expert paragliders from the entire world.
Water sports and deep sea fishing
Diving, snorkelling, surfing, sailing, kitesurfing and much more; just sunbathing is definitely too banal for what the ocean might offer. Who rather prefers exploring the waters with a fishing rod, will possibly be rewarded with massive blue marlins or other great fish.
